Branford Town Green Concept Plan

In the context of a comprehensive study of traffic and parking in Branford, the YUDW was engaged to prepare a parallel urban design study of the Downtown area, with particular attention to the historic Green. Although in many respects a classic New England town green, with a strong role in commercial and civic life of the Town, the Branford Green is currently encumbered by inappropriate and poorly designed vehicular circulation and parking. Taking advantage of proposals to reconfigure local traffic and parking patterns, the YUDW was able to propose a substantial enhancement of the public open space and landscape of the Green. The design also recognizes the role of the Green as part of a walkable downtown in which commercial, civic, and religious activities are able to work together to create a lively town center.
