On Wednesday, Yale UDW Director Alan Plattus presented to an assembled group of experts, leaders and stakeholders via video at the Beijing Central Business District Roundtable, part of the Chaoyang Business Festival held in Beijing this week. The roundtable focused on planning issues around the recently announced Jing-Jin-Ji megaregion, which proposes combining Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei province into a metropolitan planning unit roughly the size of Kansas. Professor Plattus’ comments emphasized the need to establish an identity for the region, and proposed strategies including the use of large scale natural and man made features of the regional landscape as functional and imagable elements.
